Our History
John Scalo and Richard “Duke” Burns formed the Burns & Scalo partnership in 1956. As part of their investments as business partners, John and Duke started a real estate development company, Burns & Scalo Real Estate Services, Inc., investing in real estate with small, single- and double-unit apartment buildings.
James Scalo, through his college years and upon graduation, worked for his father's contracting firm. Soon, James took charge of the company-owned real estate portfolio, which included apartment buildings, 
commercial offices, warehouses and land. He restructured the holdings by selling, buying and building new facilities. James expanded the business by taking on the management of larger properties and acting as a commercial developer. In 1985, James was named Director of Development, and in recognition of his contributions to growing the firm, he was named President of Burns & Scalo Real Estate Services in 1990.
Today, Burns & Scalo Real Estate Services has expanded its investment and services portfolio to include commercial office structures, flex and warehouse buildings, apartment buildings, storage facilities, residential condominiums and build-to-suit opportunites and has grown to become one of the most respected commercial real estate firms in the Northeast region of the United States. The company owns and manages millions of square feet of commercial real estate for both private investment and third-party owners.
Burns & Scalo Real Estate Services also offers clients services such as tenant representation, brokerage and investment services, development services, construction management and asset management.
