Sustainable Mission: Burns & Scalo recognizes the growing need to change the way we conduct our business, manage our personal environments and those of the customers we serve to help conserve our natural resources.  Our mission is two-fold; to become more sustainable as a way of life and to become more sustainable through the services and products that we offer.  Burns & Scalo is committed to doing our part to conserve our natural resources not only for us and our customers, but for future generations as well. Below is a list of goals we have accomplished and a list of goals we want to accomplish to secure a world that is healthier, safer and smarter.

Goals We Have Accomplished:

  • Burns & Scalo has become a member of the Green Building
        Alliance
  • Scott Caplan is LEED educated
  • Buildings are being cleaned with green products
  • Turn off lights and computers in offices/rooms when not occupied
  • Recycle old stationary into note pads
  • Light and water sensors placed in building bathrooms
  • Educate staff on how to live green
      • Reduce paper waste: photocopy/print on both sides of paper,
            email when possible and keep electronic files, scan documents
            instead of copying, implement direct deposit for billing documents

    Goals We Want to Accomplish:
      • Green our purchasing: purchase all recycled, environmentally
            friendly products
      • Recycle: paper, cans, plastics
      • Install occupancy switches and dimmers on switches.  Convert to
            fluorescent or lower wattage bulbs
      • James Scalo is becoming LEED educated

Greening Our Portfolio: New Construction
All new buildings will be constructed implementing the most environmental friendly solution from the following categories:

  • Water Efficiency
  • Energy and Atmosphere
  • Material and Resources
  • Indoor Environment Quality
  • Innovation and Design

    Renovations:
  • The Baldwin Collection, a shopping center located in South
        Baldwin Township is currently receiving $2 million in capital
        improvements renovating it as green property.
  • Tenant Improvements are being offered with green
        improvements.
